Lab value

Ferritin Blood Test

Ferritin is a protein that stores iron in the body. A ferritin blood test measures how much ferritin is in your blood sample. This page explains what the value measures in general terms, not what your result means. Reference ranges vary by lab and person.

Ferritin is included in the Active Health Panel (61 lab values) and the Complete Health Insight Panel (96 lab values). It is not in the Everyday Health Baseline Panel. In those panels, ferritin is reported with total iron, total iron binding capacity (TIBC), iron saturation, vitamin B12, and folate.

NXT Labs provides lab testing information only. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and NXT does not provide medical review or interpretation of your results. Share your results with your own healthcare provider.

Questions

Questions about ferritin.

What is ferritin?

Ferritin is a protein that stores iron in the body. A ferritin blood test measures how much ferritin is in your blood sample. This page explains what the value measures in general terms, not what your result means; reference ranges vary by lab and person.

How long do ferritin results take?

Results are typically available 48–72 hours after your collection is completed, though timing can vary. Collection is walk-in only at 2,000+ collection sites nationwide, and tests are performed by a CLIA-certified lab. Ferritin appears with your other panel values. Ferritin is reported as one lab value in the panel.

What other values are reported with ferritin?

In NXT Labs panels, ferritin comes with related iron values: total iron, total iron binding capacity (TIBC), and iron saturation, plus vitamin B12 and folate. This explains what is measured, not what a result means. Talk with your own healthcare provider about results.
